The owner of the house, Nathan Bard I, was a prominent local businessman. He understood the market needs of the times and operated a town tannery, lumber yard and hardware store. Mr.Bard was also one of the founding members of the Port Allegany First National Bank which was established in 1888. The entrance to our Inn is an unusual oversized banker's door
which was considered very modern and offered the best security of it's time. His bride, Lillian John Bard, lived here until she was 103. Miz Lillian passed at 106. The home remained in the same family for nearly 85 years. We are proud to be the keepers of the history.
The front door has a side panel of stained glass in the prairie design style of Frank Lloyd Wright.
Upon entering our foyer you will see the impressive Victorian oak staircase which is a proud example of turn of the century detailed craftmanship. Replication of this staircase today is improbable as finding 125 year old oak wood would be daunting.
Looking up you can view the two story tall ceiling of the pressed tin style in color of copper.
A personal selection of our local woodcarvers and PA Wilds artisans are displayed in the foyer. We also have local maple syrup from our neighbor and Inn coffee mugs for your breakfast at home.
These original and one of a kind art pieces are available for purchase as mementos and gifts.
Help yourself to the brochure rack that is filled with a large selection of maps and information to the attractions and events in our area. We have menus of our local eateries for you to review.
The brass English stand is filled with umbrellas for our guests use. A powder room is located underneath the staircase for your immediate comfort.
Please choose the room you wish to view from the menu on the left.
